Departmental Admissions

Admissions Form

Please complete the linked form. This includes your contact information, academic information, and personal objectives for why you want to do graduate work.

Personal References

You should also ask three individuals to provide letters of reference for you.
These should be mailed directly to:

Graduate Coordinator
Department of Plant Pathology
Miller Plant Sciences Bldg.
University of Georgia
Athens, GA 30602-7274.

Evaluation criteria

Your application will be evaluated by the department's Graduate Studies Committee and a recommendation for acceptance or rejection will be made to the Graduate School. Funding decisions also are made by this committee. The criteria for evaluation are as follows:

  1. Grade point average for entire baccalaureate program, for the last two years of the baccalaureate program, and for a graduate program where appropriate
  2. Background in agricultural and biological sciences
  3. Scores on the verbal, quantitative and qualitative sections of the Graduate Record Examination
  4. Potential to complete graduate study based on evaluations provided by your references
  5. Stated personal objectives
  6. In the case of international applicants, the TOEFL score also will be considered.

Interview

Whenever possible, we recommend strongly that you try to visit our campus for a personal interview. A visit provides you with the opportunity to meet faculty members and current graduate students, discuss graduate programs, see the teaching and research facilities, and tour the campus and city. Often, these activities provide a more realistic basis for your acceptance and selection of a specific area of speciality and potential major professor. We recognize, however, that it may not be possible for you to visit on campus. In this case, the Graduate Coordinator and one or more faculty members will conduct a telephone interview after all your application materials have been received. If you have any questions regarding the interview process, please do not hesitate to contact the Graduate Coordinator.
