Dr. Chris Smart, the 35th Luttrell Lecture Honoree
The annual E.S. Luttrell Lecture is the University of Georgia Department of Plant Pathology's signature event each year, and many distinguished speakers have come to UGA to give research presentations since the lecture's inauguration in 1990. The lecture series is named after E.S. Luttrell, a renowned mycologist, research mentor, and administrator at the University of Georgia.
 
The 2025 Luttrell Lecture was presented on Wednesday, May 14 by Dr. Christine Smart, Professor in the School of Integrative Plant Science (Plant Pathology and Plant-Microbe Biology Section) at Cornell AgriTech, Geneva, NY. The title of her lecture was "How Consumers, Pathogens, and Weather are Changing Vegetable Production"

Dr. Luttrell is remembered for the quality and innovativeness of his research but also as a man of integrity and cincerity, caring and sensitve, with a deep sense of fairness and responsibility (Dr.  Richard T. Hanlin).
